What can we do?
And stay safe...
In early February, I set up a free to readers substack, wrote a post and shared the draft with friends - who scared me off from posting it. Since then, I’ve written two more, not posted. Now, at 81, I figure what do I have to loose? My new tack and what I am asking you to do, is question - on any platform, in any group, at every opportunity. This has been a suggestion for talking with someone you know is of an opposing view. Like “What do you like about the new administration?” Today it might be to cite the new agreement to which one must agree to in order to access your online SS information. You are being to acknowledge you will not hold the DOGE responsible for any errors. Wow! By bringing this up in a group of low information folks, you’ll probably get kickback but just suggest they check it out. Those non reading or Fox news watching folks are in the dark about much of what is happening these days.
Last week I wrote:
One of our new cabinet members reflected on the transition from government to private operations. I don’t recall this being a part of the platform of MAGA, and I question how many who comprehend the implications of this maneuver, realize this means the rich get richer and the poor, poorer.
Not sure what can be done but we need an information campaign so citizens realize this will not improve lives and workers will lose job protections.
How can we publicize this before government functions become money makers for oligarchs?
Then this week, I started to write about our new lovey dovey relationship with Russia. All of us above the age of 30 must remember the fear of Communism and Russia. How did you feel about the Oval Office event on February 28 with Zelensky being ambushed by a Putin loving Trump?
And I lost some sleep, thinking about the vulnerability of the country’s databases. Trump has said he will protect SS, and Medicare but “gee whiz, something happened and the data is gone, or unreadable. Those guys were just trying to figure out Cobal This morning’s disclaimer when one attempts to access their online SS account is a very scary premonition. Not sure where we can get answers but this is a question to be put to legislators and ask our friends to also question.
